This is an Olympus Trip 35 camera.

For ages I have wanted a camera just like the one I had when I was a small boy. My first camera. The camera I used to take with me on rainy holidays along the Dorset coast. The camera I would eagerly snap away at a group of seagulls or take several pictures of my own hand by accident. A camera that my seven year old fingers struggled to wind on for the first of many skewed and out of focus shots.

I’ve longed for a beloved Olympus Trip 35 to be in my boyish hands once again.

So onto eBay I jumped and after a short search I decided on an example in good condition, with film for £30. Bargain! I cried to myself as I eagerly waited until the last thirty seconds of the auction to place my winning bid.

A wash of nostalgia enveloped me and I couldn’t be more excited to take my new camera to Madrid the following month and take only somewhat more focussed pictures.

Fast forward three days and I am hunting for some generic adapter cable in my boyhood home when I discovered this Olympus Trip 35.

My Olympus Trip 35.

I had completely forgotten that I owned one. I assumed it was thrown out long ago with the old transformer toys or my posters of 80’s American wrestling stars. But here it was, 16 years later back in my life.

I now feel very stupid and elated. So now I own TWO Olympus Trip 35 cameras.

Any offers for my new camera are welcome, (just leave me an ask), why the new one? Because you can bet your bottom dollar I am keeping my first boyhood camera.

This is the moment a lightning bolt appears to strike the Statue of Liberty in New York. New York photographer Jay Fine had spent the night braving the storm in Battery Park City, Manhattan, in a bid to get the perfect picture. Jay spent nearly two hours poised with his camera and took more than 80 shots before striking lucky with this particular bolt of lightning at 8.45pm on 22 September. He said he had been waiting 40 years to get the picture.
To capture the shots Jay used a Nikon D300s with 60mm f/2.8 lens on the following settings: Aperture: F/10, Shutterspeed: 5 seconds, ISO: 200.
